Food for Thought

Today a lady from the heart foundation came to our class and her name was Adele. She came to our class to talk about the food groups and how to eat healthy. She also taught us how much energy, fat, sugar, fibre and sodium are in different boxes of cereal.

The first thing that Adele spoke about, is the different food groups. She first introduced us to foods that contained fat in it, then she taught us how much sugar were in other foods. Next she spoke about other foods that had sodium (salt). I’ll tell you a type of food that has sodium inside and that everybody eats, which is cereal.

Thereafter, Adele then gave one card between two students. On the card was a picture of a cereal brand and next to the picture was the nutrition information. For this activity she wrote down all the types of cereals on the board and told us to read out the nutrition information. She then put all the duos into a group of four and told us to number each student in the group. We had to read out the fat total, how much milligrams are in the sodium, how much energy, how much sugar and the fibre, but not all cereals contain fibre.

We eventually finished and moved onto our last activity for the day. Adele called out all the months and as she was calling out the months, students had to put their hands up. So that we could show what month we were born in. Then she divided all the students into groups. Next she gave us different pictures of drinks and then instructed us to put those pictures from the least amount of sugar to the most amount of sugar.

In the end, we learned so many things and had a had a bit of fun. Afterwards, Adele had to leave but the good thing is we get to see her on Thursday.

Thank you Mr Steve for the pies, the pizzas and for the ingredients you give to us when we bake. Mr Steve has given us food for the past term and the best thing he has ever given our class is pizza. Our class is very generous on having food from Mr Steve almost everyday and we appreciate it very much.

I am happy with my results because I have improved and have finished it on the second to last day of the term. I have made an effort to learn my percentages. I have to achieve within curriculum level 3 in year 6. The reason why I got 100% is because, I focused on the test and really made an effort on learning my percentages.
